Traps & Pitfalls for Attorneys to Avoid
When Using Social Media

Speaker: Diane C. Bass, Esq.

This seminar is being given by criminal defense attorney, Diane C.
Bass, who has over 20 years of experience. Ms. Bass has represented people charged in both State and Federal Courts. She will discuss how social media can be used against our clients and the ethical traps and pitfalls of using social media for attorneys. Attorneys are also responsible for the conduct of non- attorney assistants such as paralegals or investigators and need to be mindful of these potential pitfalls. Lawyers can inadvertently disclose confidential information using social media. Additionally, Rules of professional misconduct can come into play if a lawyer engages in any false or misleading statements via social media. We are also governed by rules about statements about judges. There are rules about trial publicity. All of these things are impacted by social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and Linked-in. This is a common sense talk on critically important information.
