The Valuable Paralegal: Drafting Beyond the Basic Estate Plan

This presentation will provide a basic review of the standard, comprehensive Estate Plan and focus on the extra value you can bring to your law firm and, most importantly, the Client, by implementing certain estate planning drafting techniques and customized provisions into the Estate Plan. Serve your Clients’ best interests and bring additional value to your law firm by learning how to draft more than the basic Estate Plan.

Presented by: Susan Katzen, Esq, and Nena T. Sheldon, Esq.

Speaker Bios:

Susan A. Katzen, Esq.

As principle attorney for the Law Office of Susan A. Katzen, Ms. Katzen has created a practice committed to providing comprehensive and highly personalized services in the areas of Estate Planning, Special Needs Planning, Trust Administration, and Probate. Expertly counseling individuals, couples, families, and businesses over the past 35 years has led to Susan being a sought after speaker, author, and presenter for private groups, professional organizations, workshops, and corporate events. A longtime advocate for those in the special needs community, Susan has worked tirelessly to support such organizations as Autism Speaks, the Down Syndrome Association of Orange County, the Special Olympics Southern California division, the Orange County Asperger's Support Group, and Goodwill.  Susan received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse and her law degree from Western State University College of Law. Based in Newport Beach, California, Susan's practice serves the communities in Orange County as well as the surrounding counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego. Susan and her husband, Bob, live in Huntington Beach and have three grown children.

Nena T. Sheldon, Esq.

Nena has been a practicing attorney in the State of California since December 2012 and is a current member of the Orange County Bar Association, Orange County Trial Lawyers Association and Academy of Special Needs Planners. During law school, Nena received an academic-based scholarship and the American Jurisprudence Award for achieving the highest grade in several of her law school courses. She was a Certified Law Clerk for the Major Frauds Unit of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and, subsequently, for a plaintiff’s employment law firm located in Los Angeles. After becoming an attorney, Nena worked for an international business law firm as a managing attorney at its Los Angeles office. Thereafter, Nena formed her own law firm in Orange County with a former law school classmate, focusing on estate planning, business and corporate law and intellectual property. Nena joined the Law Office of Susan A. Katzen in August 2017, concentrating on estate planning, special needs planning, and trust and probate administration. Along with her prior legal experience, Nena brings with her an undeniable compassion for advocating on behalf of individuals to achieve a better quality of life and for understanding clients’ unique situations. Having personally experienced the loss of a family member, Nena approaches each client with special care and applies her own personal experiences to each situation in order to provide a positive experience to each client as she guides them through the legal process at hand.
