"Criminal Case Procedure from a City Prosecutor"

Breaking down how the city attorney's office considers cases for filing to taking them to trial.  


Presented by: Richard Iriarte

Speaker Bio:  Richard is a graduate of Western State University College of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of California in September of 2000.  He started as an attorney for the Office of the Long Beach City Prosecutor in June of 2001.  Responsible for considering cases for filing, conducting discovery, filing and responding to legal motions and conducting jury trials, as well as responding to appeals filed by the defense he was assigned to handling cases varying from public intoxication to drug possession to violent crimes and involuntary manslaughter.  Then he moved to the Domestic Violence unit.   During his time at the Long Beach City Prosecutor he conceived, produced and conducted “DUI COURT,” which was a mock trial presentation put on at Long Beach Wilson Classical High School with the cooperation of the Los Angeles Superior Court, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving with the aim of reducing teen drinking and driving.Richard then moved to the Anaheim City Attorney’s office in March of 2008 where he was assigned the handling of both non-violent and violent cases.
