"Top 10 Big Data Issues of 2013"  Social media, bring your own device/bring your own cloud (BYOD/BYOC), document review technology, proposed amendments to the civil procedure rules, new developments in fighting discovery abuse. In 2013, how are e-discovery professionals keeping up with these new data challenges? From policies and prevention to litigation response, the time to hone your e-discovery protocols and freshen-up on this hyper-evolving area of the law is now. Attend this session to learn thirteen tips that you can take back to your e-discovery teams to help you prepare for the next time you need to collect email, dig into social media data or review thousands of electronic files.

Presented by: John Reikes, Esq. Mr. Reikes is an Account Executive with Kroll Ontrack where he partners with clients to promote information management strategies and solutions that are efficient, repeatable, and defensible. He customizes his approach to fit industry best practices while recommending solutions that mitigate risk and reduce cost. He manages large-scale matters, integrating resources throughout the U.S. Mr. Reikes is also a California-licensed attorney with practice experience in securities and commercial litigation. Before entering the legal industry, he worked as computer programmer, developing database-driven web apps.  Education & Certification: Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, Calif., Juris Doctorate, 2005 and University of California Riverside, Bachelor of Arts, Economics, 2000.

Brian Meegan (Legal Technology Business Development for Kroll Ontrack) and Catherine Mirhady (Litigation Support Manager at Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth) will both be on hand to add to the discussion.  Catherine Mirhady has been working in the field of e-discovery for the past ten years.  She has worked for the Department of Justice and the Securities Exchange Commission in Washington DC as well as for various law firms, including, King & Spalding, O’Melveny & Myers, Proskauer and now Stradling in California. 

 

OCPA is a State Bar of California Approved MCLE provider and certifies that this seminar qualifies for MCLE CREDIT 1.0.

Fee: Free for OCPA Members and $10.00 for Non-Members with payment via website event.

Parking: Parking is $6.00 per hour in the lot adjacent to the office or there is free parking at Fashion Island (the office is across the street from the Island Hotel and the nearest store is Neiman Marcus). Parking fees are not covered by OCPA.

Food/Drink: Lunch will be provided by Kroll Ontrack starting at 11:30 am. Presentation will start promptly at 12:00 pm (Sign-in begins at 11:30 am).

HUGS PROJECT

Throughout 2013, the OCPA will support our troops by collecting socks at each General Meeting and Section Meeting for The Hugs Project. Started in 2004, The Hugs Project is dedicated to sending care packages to our Service Men and Women deployed in the Middle East.

Please bring as many socks as you can - tube, crew and especially moisture wicking socks are needed.
