Confusing Regulations, New Regulatory Changes, Conflicting Court Decisions – How Can There Be Concurrent Compliance With Both the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA)?

Synopsis:  This program will cover recent FMLA and CFRA developments, including the compliance tactics and enforcement trends for 2015!  In addition, we’ll cover:

• Recent changes to CFRA regulations

• FMLA/CFRA 911:  Serious health conditions, collecting medical information, meeting deadlines -- and avoiding litigation

• Coordinating FMLA/CFRA with workers’ compensation, the ADA, and state disability laws

• How FMLA and CFRA requirements overlap with Paid Family Leave (PFL) obligations

• Key FMLA and CFRA court rulings

Presented by: Holly R. Lake, Esq., Miller Law Group. Ms. Lake is a shareholder with the Miller Law Group and she represents private and public employers in all aspects of employment law and related litigation, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, wage and hour matters, and class/collective actions.  She has successfully defended clients at trial, in administrative proceedings, and at the appellate level.  Ms. Lake also advises clients on dealing with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs including assisting contractors in preparing, implementing, and maintaining affirmative action plans, along with advising contractors experiencing compliance evaluations.

Ms. Lake is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and currently serves as a Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference Lawyer Representative.  Her previous speaking engagements include presentations to PIHRA (Personnel in Human Resources Association), NELC (National Employment Law Council) and NAMWOLF (National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms).

Ms. Lake received her J.D. degree (magna cum laude) from the New York Law School, her M.P.H. degree from San Jose State University and her A.B. degree from the University of California, Berkeley.  Ms. Lake is admitted to the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

OCPA is a State Bar of California Approved MCLE provider and certifies that this seminar qualifies for MCLE CREDIT 1.0.

Event Fee: $10.00 for OCPA members, $20.00 for non-members and $20.00 for all walk-ins who have not pre-registered online (both members and non-members).   

Parking:  There is a fee to park in the structure located behind the building.
