  Tracing the evolution of privacy protections from the 18th century to the present day

  This presentation covers the privacy laws related to HIPAA, USA Patriot Act, HITECH Act, COPPA Act, CAN-SPAM, USA Freedom Act, CPRA, State Privacy Laws, CCPA & GDPR, and Proposed U.S. Federal Law.

  Presented by: Terry McKiernan, Esq.
  

  Terry McKiernan is the Senior Staff Attorney at Munger Tolles & Olson LLP. He has been with the law firm for nearly 30 years. He has extensive experience overseeing all phases of complex litigation, including litigation strategy, case management, and coordination of discovery efforts.

  In addition, he advises in-house IT departments on data loss prevention policies and protocols. Terry engages in internal investigations, particularly involving data breaches, employee misconduct, and trade secret misappropriation.

  Terry received his Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Loyola Law School and his Bachelor's Degree (Dual) in International Relations and Religion.

  Support Our Toy & Gift Drive for Families Forward!

  The Orange County Paralegal Association is partnering with Families Forward to support local families in need through their 2025 Holiday Giving Program. Families Foward's mission is to prevent and end family homelessness by providing access to housing and resources that create lasting stability. One way they do this is by making the holidays brighter for families who are struggling - and you can help! 

  We will be hosting a Holiday Toy & Gift Drive to collect new, unwrapped gifts for children and teens served by Families Forward. These donations will go directly to families across Orange County who are working hard to regain stability. 

  
  

  OCPA will be collecting donations at the November 5, 2025 General Dinner Meeting & Scholarship Awards Ceremony, Hilton Hotel Costa Mesa from 6:00pm-8:00pm, 3050 Bristol Street, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.

  TOPIC: Removing Disputes and Navigating Probate Litigation

  Presented By: Jeff Hall, Esq, and Jamie Ackerman, Esq.

  

  Jeff M. Hall is a partner with Trust Law Partners, LLP and head of the firm's Newport Beach office. Jeff's practice focuses on trust and estate litigation and trials. Jeff handles all types of trust and estate disputes, with a particular affinity for trust and will contests, fiduciary misconduct and financial elder abuse matters. 

  Jeff obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Jeff was admitted to the California State Bar in 1997, the Idaho State Bar in 2018, and the Texas State Bar in 2025.

  Jamie Ackerson is a is California attorney that began her career working in Estate Planning and Probate and Trust Administration. She is passionate about securing and protecting her clients legacies. Jamie also spent years working as a civil litigator and has zealously advocated for her clients and prevailed in hundreds of cases before the Superior Courts of California.

  Jamie graduated with honors from the University of California at Davis in 2005, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Jamie graduated cum laude from Chapman University School of Law and admitted to the California bar in 2008.
